Joe Timmons grew up in a working-class household where hard work, integrity, and service to others were everyday values. His father was a union pipefitter and, when Joe was young, his parents started a small mechanical contracting company that remains a successful business today. Watching his parents build a company and create good-paying jobs showed Joe what it means to invest in a community and create opportunities for working families.

Those values guided Joe into a career in public service. He has 15 years of experience working at the local, state, and federal levels of government, including serving in Governor Jay Inslee’s Office, where he represented the Governor in Northwest Washington and worked with local communities on some of the region’s most important challenges. He also worked at Western Washington University as Assistant Director of Government Relations and spent time as a preschool teacher, experiences that reinforced his commitment to education and belief that government should help create opportunities for people to succeed.

Today, Joe serves in his second term as State Representative for Washington’s 42nd Legislative District. In Olympia, he has focused on making life more affordable, supporting workers and their families, improving public safety, and delivering investments that strengthen local communities. He has helped secure funding for flood protection in the Nooksack watershed, behavioral health and substance use treatment facilities, affordable housing, and transportation projects that improve access and resiliency throughout Whatcom County.

Joe believes effective leadership means listening to the people he represents and working across differences to get results. He regularly meets with local residents, businesses, educators, first responders, and community organizations to better understand the challenges facing Whatcom County and to ensure their voices are reflected in the decisions made in Olympia.

Joe is running for re-election because he believes there is still more work to do. Too many families are struggling with the cost of housing, childcare, healthcare, and everyday expenses. Joe is committed to building on the progress that he has made and continuing to deliver practical solutions that make Whatcom County a place where people can afford to live, work, and raise a family.

Joe lives in Bellingham with his wife Heather, and son Malcolm.
